Each Montessori classroom has a “Peace Place”—a place to go and center within oneself, use a finger labyrinth or a Tibetan bell to center in oneself. Utilizing the Peace Rose as a communication device to take turns and remember the importance of listening to one another. Heavy modeling is required in the beginning, yet students are empowered to learn and grow as activated peacekeepers.
The creation of peace requires efforts in all spheres to help the students realize the power and responsibility of each person . The Montessori elementary curriculum stresses the sanctity of all life. Through integrating the spirit of peace within, and between students, in union with community and the environment, students are empowered to perceive themselves as activated peace keepers, capable in conflict resolution.
A peaceful approach evolves naturally from cultivating a reverence for life and the magnificence of the universe. Teachers learn to model this peace as a way of being. Through teachers modeling and acting with peaceful intentions, it fortifies their own positive habits that provide modeling for the students.
